## Three starting price ranges

€180 – €260

### Simple obelisk

1.4 – 1.8 m, light plant

€260 – €380

### Reinforced obelisk

1.8 – 2.4 m, rose or wisteria

€780 – €1,180

### Large format (pair)

2.0 – 2.8 m, framing a path

> The prices below are starting guidelines, to be confirmed with a precise quote once height, finish and quantity are known — an obelisk ordered in a pair or a set costs less per unit than a single piece.

## By format

| Format | Height | Use | Indicative price |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Simple obelisk | 1.4 – 1.8 m | Light climbing plant (clematis) | **€180 – €260** |
| Reinforced obelisk | 1.8 – 2.4 m | Climbing rose, wisteria | **€260 – €380** |
| Large-format obelisk | 2.0 – 2.8 m | Standalone decorative piece | **€420 – €650** |
| Large-format pair | 2.0 – 2.8 m | Framing a path or entrance | **€780 – €1,180** |

Factors

## What moves the price
     Height and section
An obelisk sized for a mature wisteria needs a thicker steel section than a format built for clematis — raw material weighs directly on the price.
   Finish
Simple galvanising, powder coating, or a duplex system combining both: the most durable finish also costs more upfront but reduces upkeep over time.
   Quantity
A pair or a set of several matching pieces mechanically lowers the per-unit price compared with a single piece.
   Plain or ornate
A worked finial, gold-leaf detailing, or a decorative bar pattern adds shaping time, billed accordingly.

For comparison

## What's out there

 - **€18 – €35** — entry-level: an 80cm trellis stake at Leroy Merlin (€18.50) or a modular obelisk structure at ManoMano (€34).
 - **€45 – €60** — mid-range, often from garden centres: a 120cm conical stake or a "globe" plant support at Truffaut, between €48 and €50.
 - **€1,000+** — high-end decorative steel sets: a set of three 222cm plant stands runs around €1,076 at Truffaut.

Secondhand and antiques

## How much does an old secondhand obelisk cost
      €800 – €2,000+
On the antiques and secondhand market, an old wrought-iron obelisk most often trades in this range depending on age, size and condition — a 210cm Directoire-style piece, for instance, sold for around €1,200 through a professional antique dealer. It's a different market from a new, made-to-order piece: no guarantee on remaining sturdiness or rust protection, but a patina and history a new piece doesn't have.

> Market reference gathered in 2026 from a secondhand furniture platform, not a price charged by this workshop — which only sells new, made-to-order pieces.

Material

## Iron section and rust protection, briefly

 - **Square or flat bar** — load-bearing uprights most often run 10 to 16mm across in square bar, decorative scrollwork in flat bar 16 × 6mm to 20 × 8mm, adapted to your obelisk's height and use.
 - **Hot-dip galvanising** — standard EN ISO 1461, at least 70 microns of zinc for steel over 6mm, alone or combined with powder coating. See our [installation and care](https://obelisque-de-jardin.fr/en/installation-and-care/) page.

Frequently asked questions

## What people ask us most
Why does a wrought-iron obelisk cost more than a garden-centre model?
Most garden-centre models are thin powder-coated steel, not solid wrought iron — less material, less shaping time, and generally a shorter service life under the weight of a mature plant.
Does a pair really cost less than a single piece?
Yes, per unit — production setup is spread across several matching pieces, as with any made-to-order batch.
     Does the price include installation?
To be confirmed at the quote stage depending on the fixing method chosen.
Is an old secondhand piece cheaper than a new obelisk?
Not necessarily — on the antiques market, old obelisks most often trade between €800 and over €2,000 depending on age, size and condition, with no fixed grid and no guarantee on remaining sturdiness.
What rust protection justifies the price of a forged obelisk?
Hot-dip galvanising (standard EN ISO 1461), alone or combined with powder coating, generally holds up outdoors for several decades according to industry technical sheets — a more durable, and more costly, protection than simple paint.
